Antonian College Preparatory High School, a thriving Catholic school in San Antonio, Texas is searching for a dynamic, faith-filled leader to join their exceptional school community as principal for the 2025-2026 school year. This Roman Catholic, co-educational, college-preparatory high school was established in 1964 by the Archdiocese of San Antonio and is accredited by the Texas Catholic Conference of Bishops Education Department (TCCB ED). The 30-acre campus is located in central San Antonio, the seventh-most populous city in the United States. Current enrollment is about 700 students in 9th-12th grades with an overall 14:1 student/teacher ratio. San Antonio has a rich, vibrant culture focused around family, and Antonian College Preparatory High School has an equally inviting atmosphere. The culture of Antonian is something that can be best explained by experiencing it in person, walking the halls, and attending school events.

Students at Antonian enjoy a rigorous curriculum that assists in their intellectual development. Antonian course curricula incorporate learning objectives outlined in the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (T.E.K.S.), the U.S. Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB) guidelines for Catholic high schools, and, as appropriate, the College Board Advanced Placement (AP) curriculum, the dual credit curriculum through the respective college/university, the American Classical League Standards for Classical Language Learning (Latin), and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language (Spanish). In addition, Antonian offers four years of American Sign Language as part of their language offerings.

Antonian students can choose from a wide variety of extracurricular activities to support their social-emotional development, as well as their spiritual and intellectual growth. Antonian offers 8 academic clubs, 10 service clubs, and over 20 special interest clubs. School-wide mass is held weekly and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament through Theology classes is held monthly.

The Antonian athletic program currently offers 14 sports and over 30 teams. Over two-thirds of the student body participates in one or more sports. Antonians strong student-athlete concept fosters academic achievement as well as athletic development. They have consistently been ranked in the top five schools in the State of Texas among private and parochial schools for academics and athletics. Antonian holds 59 state championships, 4 Henderson Cup titles, and over 110 commitments in the past seven years to play at the collegiate level.

The successful candidate must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church who will continue the tradition of high academic achievement and provide essential leadership in maintaining a vibrant Catholic environment. Additional requirements include a Masters or higher degree in Education, School Administration, or a related field; and a minimum of 5 years of teaching with administrative and leadership experience.

Summary:

The principal fulfills the mission of the Catholic school by serving as the spiritual, educational, and managerial leader of the school. The principal is charged with the implementation of the philosophy, mission, objectives, and the overall management of the school. The principal is responsible for the professional effectiveness of the staff, the educational progress of the students, as well as the relationships within the entire school community.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Supports and upholds the philosophy of Catholic education and the mission of the school
  • Acts as a witness to the Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Develops a school climate reflecting Catholic identity
  • Supports and adheres to the teachings of the Catholic Church, the Religious Standards for Catholic School Employees, and policies and procedures of the Archdiocese
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school matters
  • Adheres to safety training and protocols on a daily basis and takes precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of self, others.
  • Responsible for protecting the confidentiality of any information or material obtained in the service with the organization including but not limited to client names and information, services rendered to clients, donors names and gifts, internal and external investigations or results of any investigations, and financial information.
  • Adherence to the Code of Conduct and the Faith and Moral Policy is mandatory.
  • Every employee is required to take a solution-oriented approach in their interactions and undertakings, as well as being a team member that promotes collaboration and commitment to the Mission and Vision of the organization.
  • Reports to the Archdiocese of San Antonio Department of Catholic Schools and provides routine updates and required communication as requested by the Superintendent and DCS staff.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Lead and Develop School Personnel

  • Directly supervises and assesses all faculty and staff annually, in accordance with Department of Catholic School guidelines
  • Guide the faculty and staff and provide servant-leadership both spiritually and academically.
  • Develop a sound program for the spiritual and academic growth of the faculty and staff through in-service, conferences, and orientation workshops.
  • Handles grievances of all faculty and staff in accordance with Archdiocese of San Antonio Human Resource guidelines
  • Head the final dismissal of faculty and staff who do not perform satisfactorily.
  • Promote effective and frequent communication between the faculty, staff, School Council, and Department of Catholic School staff and leadership.
  • Identify the hiring of personnel, oversee the search, and conduct the interviews for needed personnel following Department of Catholic Schools policies, guidelines, and expectations.

Oversee Curriculum and Educational Planning

  • Oversee the evaluation and development of all curricula.
  • Ensure that sound educational and academic goals are set.
  • Ensure that the school is well equipped and well supplied with teaching materials, supplies, and resources as finances allow.
  • Lead the school in all educational legal matters by staying apprised of legal requirements and trends.
  • Utilize the resources and participate appropriately with organizations such as TCCB ED and the Department of Catholic Schools, in order to keep abreast of current, major trends in education in general and Catholic education in particular.
  • Files all required paperwork with the Department of Catholic Schools and TCCB ED, including attendance records, enrollment, annual reports, accreditation reports, etc.
  • Oversee the development of the annual school calendar.
  • Oversee all achievement and standardized testing.
  • Holds regular faculty and staff meetings.
  • Attends all board meetings.
  • Lead the school in acquiring and maintaining TCCB ED Accreditation.

Interact With Students and Parents

  • Oversees the re-enrollment and enrollment drive annually and makes the final admission decisions to ensure for mission alignment.
  • Regulates and enforces discipline, both behavioral and academic.
  • Answers parents concerns and sets up conferences with faculty and staff.
  • Oversees and plans spiritual development by obtaining speakers and conducts mass weekly and speaks in Mass occasionally.
  • Ensures that student records and transcripts are adequate, accurate, and administered legally with the assistance of the office.

Plan and Monitor School Finances

  • Present an annual budget for consultative feedback from the School Council.
  • Oversee budget compliance throughout the fiscal year with the Department of Catholic Schools
  • Approve requests for purchases by the faculty and staff.
  • Oversee the collection of tuition accounts, all accounts receivables, and payable.
  • Share financial information with the schools accountant to see the schools obligations are paid on time.

Lead Institutional Advancement

  • Develop and maintain a vibrant public relations program with school families, local church ministries, and the general public.
  • Look for opportunities to promote the school in churches and mission committees and all community organizations.
  • Lead the school in the ongoing process of strategic planning.
  • Maintain regular communication with the constituencies of the school through newsletters, direct mail, weekly news, and website.
  • Oversee the planning of long and short-term fundraising endeavors.
  • Foster good relationships with all churches in the community.
  • Oversee and develop a strategy to address the annual fund need.
  • Build relationships with donors and prospective donors.
Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

Education

  • Must be a practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church who possesses a commitment to ongoing formation in catechetical and spiritual leadership development.
  • Masters degree or higher.
  • 18 credit hours in educational administration and supervision courses or a valid, appropriate state certificate for a principal.

Experience

  • Seeking candidates with 5 or more years of teaching experience and demonstrated leadership and administrative skills.

License and Credentials
