Dallas District Field Survey Specialist I, II, or III - (2501072) Position InformationThe Dallas District is looking for team members to join our District In-House Survey team as a field party member. This position is a great opportunity to be out of the office and working in the field supporting the districts many constructions projects. The District Survey Specialist will utilize specialized equipment to acquire data in the field and then process the data into usable files for design. This position is dynamic and will give an opportunity to travel the entire seven county District.

Position DescriptionProvides technical expertise and advice on surveying projects and/or performs specialized surveying work under the supervision of a Registered Professional Land Surveyor or licensed Professional Engineer. Work usually requires contact with governmental and private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties for Survey Specialist I, II, and III:
- Maintains and calibrates equipment.
- Trains and instructs other survey personnel.
- Travels to gather information and recommend future surveying projects.
- Conducts trigonometric and conventional leveling surveys, including 3-wire techniques, to determine elevations.
- Determines, coordinates, and sets benchmarks or locates those set by previous surveys.
- Obtains, processes, and analyzes raw field survey data collected from electronic survey equipment and/or GPS.
- Operates survey instruments such as level, transit, theodolite, electronic distance meter, total survey station and data collector.
- Takes field notes, verifies accuracy of field notes, performs necessary calculations, uses software programs to determine.
- coordinates, draws plots and documents work in the field diary.
- Uses a variety of surveying software and related hardware.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education for a Survey Specialist I/II/III: High School Grad or Equivalent in general education.
Experience:
Survey Specialist I: 1 year surveying, drafting, cartography, mathematics, geography, GIS, construction, or engineering related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Survey Specialist II: 2 years surveying, drafting, cartography, mathematics, geography, GIS, construction, or engineering related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
Survey Specialist III: 3 years surveying, drafting, cartography, mathematics, geography, GIS, construction, or engineering related experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full time or prorated part time equivalent).
- Certification as Surveyor in Training (SIT) by the State of Texas may substitute for experience.
- Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Licenses and Certifications: Valid drivers license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

- Sedentary work: Lift up to 10 lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
