Position Overview

Associate General Counsel – Verra Mobility. Reporting to the Deputy General Counsel, this role provides broad legal support across litigation, employment, compliance, ethics, and enterprise risk. The Associate General Counsel advises executive leadership, partners with cross‑functional teams, and ensures compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Serve as a senior legal advisor to executive leadership on litigation exposure, employment risks, enterprise compliance, and privacy/security matters.
  • Manage and oversee litigation, disputes, and pre‑litigation matters, including supervising outside counsel and coordinating legal strategy.
  • Provide counsel on employment law matters, including employee relations, workplace policies, investigations, and compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws.
  • Lead and enhance the company’s global corporate compliance program, including code of conduct governance, policy framework management, risk assessments, training, communications, and program enhancements.
  • Oversee ethics and investigations processes, including hotline administration, internal investigations, remediation efforts, disciplinary coordination, and government inquiries.
  • Ensure compliance across key enterprise risk areas such as anti‑corruption, competition, conflicts of interest, insider trading, third‑party due diligence, trade compliance, and other obligations.
  • Partner with Security, IT, HR, Internal Audit, and operational leadership teams on cybersecurity, privacy, AI governance, and information governance matters.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship within the Legal Department and help drive operational excellence and scalable processes.
  • Develop and support compliance reporting, metrics, and strategic recommendations to strengthen internal controls and promote integrity.
  • Recommend investigation pathways, policy enhancements, training priorities, and control improvements, escalating material financial exposure, senior executive conduct, or significant reputational risk.
  • Support Board and executive‑level reporting related to litigation, compliance, and enterprise risk management.
  • Advising on and optimizing legal risk and compliance considerations while suggesting business‑supportive solutions.
  • Issue‑spot potential legal challenges and run them to ground.
  • Proactively identify and anticipate emerging legal and regulatory issues that could impact products and services.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Support the company’s privacy and data protection program, including advising on the collection, access, use, sharing, retention, and protection of personally identifiable information (PII). Ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws, regulations, and internal policies.
  • Support mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic transactions by assisting with legal due diligence, risk assessment, integration planning, and coordination with internal stakeholders and outside counsel.
  • Collaborate with IP counsel on patent and other IP‑related matters.
  • Develop strong collaborative working relationships with colleagues and business stakeholders.
  • Manage outside counsel as required.
  • Support the Deputy General Counsel with day‑to‑day legal management and workflow.
  • Support other legal team and executive leaders with special projects as needed.
  • Handle the occasional fire drill.
Qualifications
  • JD from an accredited law school and in good standing with a state bar association.
  • 10+ years of experience as a practicing attorney with broad experience in general legal services (litigation, compliance, ethics, employment, regulatory compliance, privacy, and commercial matters).
  • Experience designing, administering, or materially supporting corporate compliance programs, including policies, risk assessments, training, hotline administration, investigations, remediation, and reporting.
  • Working knowledge of anti‑corruption, anti‑trust, insider trading, conflicts of interest, third‑party due diligence, trade compliance, and other enterprise compliance risk areas.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues in a simple, understandable manner to colleagues with varying legal knowledge.
  • Ability to work well in time‑sensitive situations and fast‑paced environments; effectively manage multiple projects or matters with competing deadlines.
  • Strong presentation and negotiation skills.
  • Solid business instinct and judgment.
  • High degree of organization and efficiency with demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Strong collaborative skills and proven team orientation.
  • Personal integrity, sound judgment, and strong ethics in business and personal conduct.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience at a law firm servicing business clients.
  • Experience as an in‑house attorney.
