The Academy for Precision Learning (APL) is a K-12 school dedicated to providing a nurturing, inclusive, and individualized learning environment for neurodiverse students, the majority of whom have autism. We are seeking a passionate and energetic Special Education Teacher K-5 to join our dynamic team. The role of a Special Education Teacher at APL is a vital one that requires not only an individual who is an expert in pedagogy, but who also brings a passion for inclusive education and a love of working with neurodivergent learners. The Special Education teacher is responsible for organizing, delivering, monitoring, and revising instructional plans, implementing differentiated accommodations in the classroom, and ILP (Individual Learning Plan) documentation.
**
CLASSROOM PLANNING, PREPARATION, AND INSTRUCTION
* Teaches and/or co-teaches classes that provide engaging learning opportunities for students needing specially designed instruction (SDI) in academics and/or functional life skills.
* Performs a variety of assessments and observations to determine the areas in which the student may need extra or modified educational services.
* Identifies students’ needs and develops related lesson and teaching plans.
* Develops an integrated plan for the education of each student by collaborating with classroom teachers, parents, psychologists, BCBAs, BTs, social workers, and other school staff.
* Maintains knowledge of special education teaching methods, research, and best practices through professional development and study.
* Supports each student’s social-emotional and behavioral growth through meaningful engagement
* Model and create an environment oriented around learning and respect through a positive attitude, rapport with students, and managing classroom, small groups, and one-on-one interactions with students
LEADERSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
* Fosters positive and appropriate relationships with parents and the wider community
* Implements IEPs and creates Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), provides ongoing or follow-up assessments, and continually tracks progress and makes modifications as necessary.
* Directs, monitors, and mentors teachers working with students who have disabilities.
* Maintains accurate records in the student information system. Completes documentation in a timely and compliant manner, including grading, progress reports, and IEP-related documentation as well as all personnel-related documentation for absences or deviations from schedule.
* Meets regularly with the Special Education Director to communicate classroom, student, and team needs.
* Accepts direction from supervisor and responds positively to constructive feedback, seeks to grow professionally, and adheres to school policies and procedures.
* Attends parent-teacher conferences to discuss student progress with families

* Prior classroom experience working with students in grades K-5 within special education settings or similar environments
* WA Teacher Certification with Special Education endorsement required   
* Master’s Degree strongly preferred 
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Thorough understanding of policies, laws, and guidelines related to special education including IDEA, IEPs, and 504.

Pay: $66,188.00 - $98,757.00 per year
