ABOUT THE POSITION
The Stanislaus County District Attorney office is seeking qualified law students for the position of Deputy District Attorney I Trainee. Candidates must be certified by the State Bar of California. As an attorney trainee, you will work under a Chief Deputy District Attorney and handle a range of misdemeanor criminal cases, including driving under the influence, domestic violence, drug possession, theft, weapons charges, and prostitution. Responsibilities include discovery, law and motion filings, settlement negotiations, trial preparation, plea discussions, witness interviews, evidence evaluation, and presentations.
RESPONSIBILITIESAn Attorney I Trainee earns 15% less than the first step of the Attorney I series. Trainees are appointed to the first step of the salary range for the unclassified service and may be upgraded to a probationary Attorney I appointment after completing the training period and acquiring the required qualifications. Appointment duration is one year, extendable up to two years with minimum qualifications.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONSThis position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference. Veterans may be given preference for hiring as per state law.
