Job Summary

Key West Housing Authority is seeking a skilled and dependable Electrician to support the maintenance and repair of residential and administrative properties. This role is responsible for ensuring all electrical systems are safe, functional, and compliant with applicable codes while contributing to high-quality housing standards for residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, and repair wiring, electrical fixtures, control equipment, and related systems
• Inspect electrical systems and components to identify hazards, defects, and needed repairs
• Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes and safety standards
• Respond to service requests and work orders in a timely and effective manner
• Coordinate with contractors, inspectors, and other trades for projects and compliance checks
• Maintain accurate records of materials used and work completed
• Follow all safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and lockout/tagout procedures
• Provide support for emergency and after-hours repairs on a rotating on-call basis

Education & Experience Requirements

• High school diploma or GED required
• Minimum 3 years of related experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Working knowledge of maintenance trades including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical systems
• Familiarity with tools, materials, and safety practices used in construction and maintenance
• Ability to read and interpret plans, sketches, manuals, and work orders
• Skilled in the safe use of hand and power tools with strong hand-eye coordination
• Ability to diagnose issues, estimate materials, and complete work efficiently
• Knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and relevant regulations
• Strong communication, judgment, and recordkeeping skills
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team and adapt to varying schedules
• Professional and courteous when interacting with residents, coworkers, and the public
• Commitment to safety, ongoing training, and maintaining certifications

Physical Demands & Work Environment

• Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and perform repetitive motions
• Work performed both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions (heat, cold, noise, etc.)
• Exposure to potential hazards, including electrical systems and construction environments
• Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

Special Requirements

• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver’s License
