Some Typical Duties & Responsibilities Include: The hourly base rate of pay for this internship starts at $18.00, and may increase based on major and class standing. This position is for a student pursuing an environmental, health physics, chemical or general engineering degree and/or a degree in a related science such as physics, biology or chemistry. Tasks may include but not limited to updating environmental training material, performing environmental field walkdowns, researching chemical data to support waste characterization, field and desktop work associated with the staging and managing of hazardous wastes, working with technical staff on method efficiencies to the Environmental Bioassay Laboratory, working with Environmental Monitoring Program staff on the Annual Site Environmental Report, and various environmental compliance and monitoring support functions, as needed. Required Qualifications Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. Must be a full-time student at an accredited four-year college or university, or within one year after finishing a degree program. Must have completed freshman year of college. Must successfully complete Savannah River Site General Employee Training and substance abuse processing. Security Clearance Information SRNS is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, criminal records, and employment history, and education verifications. Positions with SRNS may require applicants to obtain and maintain a DOE L or Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. Factors such as pre-employment background review results, dual citizenship status, and unpaid and/or unfiled taxes may impact your ability to obtain a security clearance.
