SUMMARY

The Café Leader is the highest level of leadership in our café setting and is responsible for driving a

healthy, high-performing café team through clear communication, active support, and strong

operational oversight. This role is for someone who leads with integrity, puts people first, and

celebrated.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

SAFETY

• Follow all company safety policies and procedures, and direct staff to do the same

• Operate equipment safely and in accord with company training, and direct staff to do the

same

• Promptly report all incidents, issues, and concerns to CEO

• Ensure food safety and adhere to company food handling procedures; follow food handlers

guidelines

• Handle disruptions, emergencies safely and in accord with company policy

• Appropriately respond to employee injuries and emergencies, adhering to company protocol

• Follow company workers comp protocol in cases of incident, and immediately report to

management and the Human Resources department

• Use good judgement in the workplace, and consult with management if in doubt about how to

handle any situation

LEADERSHIP & TEAM DEVELOPMENT

• Foster a positive, inclusive, and people-centered team culture that reflects Be Bright values.

• Actively mentor and coach café staff, supporting both their personal and professional

growth.

• Lead by example, setting a high standard of accountability, professionalism, and care.

• Deliver consistent and timely feedback and performance evaluations.

• Support and uphold clear communication systems between shifts, team members, and

leadership.

• Preserve the integrity of the leadership team with employees by maintaining consistent

expectations and alignment with company directives.

• Communicate as needed with Shift Leads, conveying information that is useful and

constructive; maintain the strength and cohesion of the leadership team.

• Assist in training and onboarding new staff.

• Actively seek mentorship from management to refine leadership effectiveness.

OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

• Ensure smooth daily café operations, including opening/closing procedures, shift coverage,

and workflow efficiency.

• Monitor and uphold standards in cleanliness, safety, and customer service.

• Collaborate with the leadership team to implement systems that improve productivity and

guest experience.

• Manage inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships to support café needs.

• Track and help meet financial targets, including labor and COGS goals.

• Plan and administer employee breaks, ensuring compliance with current labor laws.

• Manage and distribute cash tips to staff

• Correct and verify staff payroll hours.

• Write employee schedule to optimize efficiency, skill, and effectiveness, following guidelines

to meet labor budget.

COFFEE COMPETENCE & CURIOSITY

• Maintain foundational knowledge of specialty coffee and demonstrate a genuine curiosity to

learn more.

• Ensure team is trained in coffee standards and that quality control is upheld.

• Collaborate with leadership to support coffee education and training.

• Help with creation and curation of coffee and tea menu, including pour over offerings, single

origin espresso offering, and cold brew offering.

• Actively monitor product quality throughout shift.

• Uphold company preparation and presentation standards, and instruct others to do the

same.

• Act as a resource to staff for product knowledge, preparation, and service.

• Adapt calmly to fast-changing environments and make decisions with both confidence and

QUALIFICATIONS

• Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters, while reporting necessary issues to

management and the Human Resources department

• Strong leadership skills

• Ability to remain composed and effective, even during times of crisis or difficulty

• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to equitably delegate tasks, provide

feedback, and resolve conflicts

• Technical capacity, including ability to operate Point of Sale (POS) system and MS Office

• Possess a current food handlers card valid for work location

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee

• Talk, hear, sit, and stand for extended periods of time

• Employ repetitive motion of the wrists, hands, and fingers

ENVIRONMENT

This job operates in a fast-paced café environment. This role routinely uses a variety of coffee and

tea brewing equipment, sinks, and toaster oven, as well as tools to calibrate and clean them.

Employees in this role are frequently exposed to hot liquids, potentially slippery floors, and cleaning

chemicals. Noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local to coffee bar, with occasional off-site meetings
