POSITION SUMMARY
The University of Providence seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in English. Candidates must be able to support and promote the University's Mission, Catholic identity, and liberal arts/professional education traditions. We seek a highly collegial and collaborative faculty member committed to welcoming students into the University community, to holistically forming students, and to helping students orient themselves among and excel in varying types of academic writing and inquiry. We work primarily with underserved populations, including ELL (English Language Learners) and first-generation students. Teaching load is 5/5, with course releases available for work with the writing center, with WAC / WID initiatives (Writing Across the Curriculum/Writing in the Disciplines), and for scholarship. Teaching responsibilities include a variety of undergraduate composition and literature courses offered in the core curriculum and Integrative Humanities major, including first-year writing, developmental writing, upper-level writing in the disciplines, literary studies, and creative writing courses; we are especially looking for someone to teach our introduction to literature course. Experience teaching ELL populations is a bonus. A portion of those courses may be online. Service to the English program, Humanities department, core curriculum, writing center, university, profession, and community are also essential to the position.

Faculty colleagues in the English program, Writing Center, and Humanities department and across the disciplines of the university, particularly those teaching writing-intensive courses
Colleagues in Academic Success Center, Registrar’s office, Institutional Effectiveness, Academic Excellence and Integrity, Mission, Student Affairs, and Athletics.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Fulfilling academic faculty obligations, comprising 80% teaching, 15% service, and 5% professional development with opportunities for release time supporting active research agendas.
Nine-month contract with summer teaching possibilities.
Developing and instructing courses in literature, creative writing, developmental writing, first-year writing, and upper-division writing in the disciplines, with further possibility of developing and teaching interdisciplinary courses and first-year seminar core curriculum courses.
Contributing to the intellectual life of the Humanities department and university.
Regularly engaging in mission-focused service to the university, community, and profession.
Staying up-to-date and actively engaging in professional disciplinary conversations (through conference presentations, publication, service, etc.)
Advising undergraduate students as needed.
Developing and contributing to assessment in courses, programs, and Core.
Performing all duties in a manner which reflects the University mission and philosophy.
Support and promote the Catholic mission and values of the university.
ESSENTIAL POSITION COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS
Education
Applicant should hold a Ph.D. in English or a closely related field. ABD candidates who are nearing completion of the dissertation considered.
Experience
Applicant must be able to provide evidence of success in teaching writing and literature courses
Applicant must be able to provide evidence of substantial, successful collaboration with colleagues in an academic context
Preferred Qualifications
Preference given to candidates who have interests and/or experience in one or more of the following areas:
WAC/WID work and other interdisciplinary collaboration
liberal arts curricula
community based writing, service learning, or other forms of community engagement and pedagogy
working with underserved populations, including ELL and first-generation students
