_*Position Details:*_ * PRN (as needed) * Sunday - Saturday with weekends as needed * 6:30 p.m. - 7:00 a.m. _*Education Required:*_ * High School Diploma/GED Required. * Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Care. _*License, Certification and/or Registration:*_ * Tennessee state licensure or eligible as a Respiratory Therapist. * Must be certified, registered or registry eligible by the National Board for Respiratory Care. * Certification of BLS is required for hiring process. * ACLS, PALS and NRP preferred. _*Experience:*_ * Clinical experience obtained while attending Respiratory program and will be able to function in critical settings including initiation, and support of, mechanical ventilation. * Additional experience relating to intubation and critical care transport competencies are preferred. _*Additional Skills/Abilities:*_ * Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment, requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. * Must have the ability to perform and recommend procedures in all areas of bronchial hygiene, oxygen therapy, respiratory diagnostic procedures, and all levels of mechanical ventilation. _*Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:*_ * All employees are expected to attend at least 75% department meetings annually. * For missed meetings, it is the employees responsibility to schedule time with their supervisor to receive information. * All employees of this job description are encouraged to obtain and maintain competencies for intubation. * Employees of this job description will exhibit the ability to properly set-up and troubleshoot all mechanical ventilators (for all modes of ventilation) according to policies and manuals relating to their position and orientation check list. * Ability to perform Pre-Use Checks and setup all equipment related to positive pressure ventilation while demonstrating the ability to manage, support and troubleshoot with minimal supervision. * Assessments will include the review of existing data in the patient's record, making objective and subjective assessments of patient conditions, and the review of current respiratory care orders, patient history, physical exam, blood gas results and additional lab data. * Documentation should be complete and accurate as defined in the policy Mechanical Ventilation Documentation and Assessment. * 90% compliance (by random audits) on the following items: complete/accurate documentation of times, calculations, appropriate alarm settings, cuff pressures, orders, documentation of IN/OUT settings, appropriate abbreviations, and full signature of name/credentials. * Employees of this job description will exhibit the ability to perform all therapeutic procedures (such hand-held nebulizers; MDIs; dry powder inhalers; and chest wall manipulation including CPT / flutter valve / PEP Valve) with integrity demonstrating a full understanding of the procedure involved, and to competently assess patient outcomes and needs relating to appropriate protocols and patient care plans. * Employees of this job description will exhibit the ability to properly set-up and troubleshoot all oxygen devices according policies and manuals. * Employees will demonstrate the ability to assess patient conditions and make flow rate changes relating to orders relating to weaning or titration. * Employees of this job description will exhibit the ability to perform basic diagnostic procedures (such as pulse oximetry, blood gas analysis, bedside weaning parameters, PF, sputum induction) with integrity demonstrating a full understanding of the procedure, processes and evaluation of results as applicable. * All clinical personnel will collect blood gas specimens with absolute integrity meeting competency standards for technique and equipment operation. * All clinical staff will document patient care with absolute accuracy and integrity. * Medicated treatments should be given during the times specified by our policies. * Documentation of initial therapy should be complete. * Employees of this job description must display a complete knowledge, and understanding of policies for emergency situations concerning plain language codes. * Employees are expected to respond Priority Response to Emergency Situations. * Employees of this job description should be able to locate and operate oxygen zone valves in crisis situations and to appropriately assess patient needs relating to oxygen therapy.
