JOB SUMMARY

The Communications Specialist will be responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the Communications department including creating and promoting new print and digital communications, social media management, association marketing, media outreach, and working together with ONA staff and members to design and implement effective communication plans. In particular, the Communications Specialist will focus attention on providing communications support for one of ONA’s three major departments: Labor and Organizing, Government Relations and Professional Services. As a key member of the Communications team, the Communications Specialist should support and advance equity, diversity, and inclusion as core values of ONA and as a crucial lens through which we do our work.

HOURS AND TRAVEL:

ONA works with healthcare workers who work across the state in 24/7 facilities. By the  nature of this work, there are times where travel, working nights, and overnight stays are required.  Hybrid schedules are available as appropriate for job duties and subject to supervisor approval.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of three years’ relevant experience in a corporate, political, labor, or non-profit environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. 

  1. Experience writing, creating and publishing content for print, digital and social media. 
  2. Ability to design both print and digital materials. 
  3. Strong knowledge of communications and public relations principles. 
  4. Prior experience in communications, marketing, media, design, or public relations in a labor union, non-profit or health care environment is preferred. 

     

Proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, and Adobe Creative Suite: InDesign, Photoshop; as well as social media management tools, basic website content management systems, email marketing systems; Must be familiar with databases and basic office equipment

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This is a full-time, exempt position. The salary is based on applicable years of experience applied to the wage scale outlined in the union staff ’s collective bargaining agreement.

 

ONA offers an annual starting salary range of $84,355 to $131,019 depending on experience.

 

ONA also offers an exceptional benefits package including total employer coverage of cost (100%) to medical, dental and vision premiums, as well as employer paid long and short-term disability and life insurance. Opportunity to enroll in 401K plan after 6 months of employment which includes a 3% employer contribution, with additional longevity contributions after 5 years. Union members are also enrolled in a union pension plan.  Annual PTO is 25 vacation days, 8 personal days and 12 sick leave days.
