Show Technician – Denver, Capitol Hill neighborhood

The Show Technician is responsible for the daily technical operation of the projection-based exhibition, ensuring all show systems function reliably and consistently to deliver a high-quality guest experience. This role supports the setup, testing, operation, and maintenance of all projection and audiovisual equipment, while troubleshooting technical issues and maintaining the visual and operational standards of the production.

Position Overview

Daily Show Setup & Operation

  • Prepare and power up all projection, audio, media server, and show control systems prior to opening each day.
  • Conduct daily technical checks to ensure all systems are operating correctly and the show is ready for public presentation.
  • Verify alignment, brightness, and synchronization of projectors and media content.
  • Run system diagnostics and confirm that all show elements are functioning before showtime.

Technical Monitoring & Troubleshooting

  • Monitor the performance of projection and audiovisual systems during presentations.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to projectors, media servers, networking, and playback systems.
  • Coordinate with remote technical advisors if advanced technical support is required.
  • Implement quick fixes to minimize show disruption and maintain continuity of the guest experience.

Equipment Maintenance

  • Perform routine maintenance of projection equipment, including lens cleaning, filter checks, and cable inspections.
  • Ensure all technical equipment is handled and stored correctly.
  • Report equipment faults or wear that may require repair or replacement.

Show Quality Control

  • Maintain consistency of image quality, projection mapping, audio levels, and show timing.
  • Ensure the presentation meets established technical and artistic standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and show reliability.

End-of-Day Shutdown

  • Safely power down and secure all technical systems and equipment after the final show.
  • Document any technical issues or maintenance needs in daily reports.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience with projectors, AV technology, media servers, or show control systems.
  1. Video Systems (Critical): Hands-on experience with VERTEX media servers and show control systems. Familiarity with video signal distribution to projectors, including Lightware network matrix systems (RX/TX)
  2. Audio Systems (Critical): Experience with professional audio systems, including QSC Q-SYS platforms and Dante networking. Familiarity with L-Acoustics speakers and amplification systems.
  3. Lighting Systems (Preferred): Working knowledge of lighting control systems is an asset. Experience with Chauvet fixtures, GrandMA3 on PC control environments, and Elation nodes is beneficial. Training can be provided.
  4. Networking (Preferred): Understanding of AV networking infrastructure, including Netgear managed switches and Access points, using network management tools such as Netgear Engage.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues under operational conditions.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high presentation standards.
  • Comfortable working in live show or exhibition environments with public audiences.
  • Ideally, 2-3 years demonstrable experience working with the Critical systems noted.
  • Man-Lift certified and ability to work at heights.

Working Conditions

  • Evening and weekend work required based on Event schedules. Day and late night work during load in period according to Production schedules.
  • The Technician operates the technical elements of show alone, with on-site guest/customer operational support and remote technical support.
  • Work performed in darkened exhibition environments and technical areas.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs comfortably
  • Reports to the show’s General Manager and remote Technical Director
  • Rate: $50/hr for 30-40hrs/wk depending on event schedule.
  • Start Date: May 11, 2026
