Role: Bar Prep (non-tipped)
Location: New York City (One Fifth)
Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
Reports to: General Manager, Assistant General Manager, Service Manager, Wine Director and Chef Management Team

Position Summary

The Bar Prep is an essential part of the Golden Steer NYC beverage team, responsible for ensuring all bar ingredients, mixers, garnishes, batch preparations, and specialized products are produced with precision, consistency, and speed. This behind-the-scenes role supports the bar team by maintaining high-quality standards, monitoring inventory needs, and keeping the bar operation organized, efficient, and compliant with DOH standards. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to work independently while contributing to the success of the entire beverage program.
This is a NON-tipped AM production role. This job is ideal for those looking for a 2nd job, as this position is a 9/10am-2/3pm. This is not a guest facing role, the production is limited to the back kitchen area. No PM assistance to the bartender team is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Product Quality & Consistency: Prepare syrups, juices, garnishes, batches, and all bar prep items according to exact recipes and Golden Steer standards.
  • Issue Reporting: Alert management of any product discrepancies, prep-related issues, equipment concerns, or items requiring attention.
  • Stock Monitoring: Track par levels, identify low stock or shortages, and communicate ordering needs to management or purchasing.
  • Cleanliness & Organization: Maintain NY DOH standard cleanliness in all bar prep, storage, and production areas, including refrigeration, tools, and containers.
  • Inventory Support: Assist the management and beverage teams with accurate end-of-month inventory counts for all bar-related items.
  • Efficiency & Accuracy: Produce prep items quickly, efficiently, and with zero compromise on quality or consistency.
  • Labeling & Rotation: Properly label, date, and rotate all products following FIFO practices and health department regulations.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Safely operate and maintain juicers, blenders, burners, CO₂ systems, and other prep equipment.
  • Collaboration with Bar Staff: Work closely with bartenders and managers to ensure all prep items needed for service are stocked, fresh, and ready.
  • Recipe Knowledge: Maintain full understanding of all bar prep recipes to ensure uniformity across all batches.

Experience & Qualifications (Must-Haves)

  • 1–2+ years of bar prep, culinary prep, or similar back-of-house production experience preferred.
  • Strong understanding of basic kitchen or bar prep techniques (juicing, batching, syrup making, sanitation).
  • Exceptional attention to detail and consistency.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple prep lists.
  • Knowledge of DOH safety and sanitation regulations.
  • English required; Spanish a plus.

Physical & Scheduling Requirements

  • Ability to stand for extended periods (8–10 hours).
  • Lift and carry up to 40 lbs.
  • Morning, afternoon, weekend, and holiday availability required.

Compensation & Benefits
